Proof Research Receives $60,000 Incentive Check

About

We recently did the Energy Analysis, MEP Design and Construction Administration for Proof Research manufacturing facility new construction project located in Kalispell, MT. Richard Jarvis was also the ESI (Energy Smart Industrial Partner) on this project. This 26,415 square foot facility consists of a 19,399 square foot production area and a two (2) story office area with a total of 7016 square feet.

The manufacturing and office area heating and cooling loads are served by a well-water (pump and dump) heat pump system. The system consists of two (2) 20 ton water-to-water heat pumps which provide radiant slab heating and cooling for the manufacturing areas and four (4) water-to-air heat pumps serving the office area. Well water is supplied by a 200 GPM variable speed well pump controlled by a constant pressure controller and re-injected into a similar sized well. A significant improvement in the building insulation levels was also included in the project energy savings. The annual electrical energy savings were 221,500 kWh/year at an incremental installed cost of $145,193, of which, $60,000 was paid through a BPA energy efficiency incentive.

The original plan for this project was the installation of roof-mounted air handling units equipped with electric resistance heat and D/X air conditioning. After an initial discussion with the owner’s representative of the benefits of using the Bonneville Power Administration Energy Smart Industrial (BPA ESI) program incentives for upgrading to a more efficient system, it was determined that a well water heat pump system would be the most cost effective system given the excellent aquifer in the construction area.

Chief Executive Officer, Pat Rainey is very pleased with the outcome of the project. The new building is efficiently heated and provides the environment conducive to the high precision work they perform. Pat was very complementary of Flathead Electric Cooperative, the BPA ESI program, Rich Jarvis ESI Partner, and Wally Wilkinson General Contractor Frontier Builders.
